On this day in 1946, Micheline Bernardini, a professional model, wore the first bikini swimsuit during a fashion show in Paris. Louis Reard, the fashion designer, called his explosive creation the "Bikini" after the Central Pacific Island, Bikini Atoll, where the A-Bomb was being tested.
